Clayton County commissioners vote to let residents decide on MARTA funding

Posted: Updated:
CLAYTON COUNTY (CBS46) -

Voters in Clayton County will go to the polls in November to decide whether to fund MARTA service in their area through a 1-cent sales tax.

In a special meeting held Saturday morning, commissioners voted 3-1 to add the question to a referendum on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 4.

If the referendum passes, it will be the first time in MARTA's history the public transit would go beyond Fulton and DeKalb counties for service.

Clayton County currently does not have local bus service and has a high rate of households without a vehicle.
