Final vigil for church Sunday ahead of demolition for new Falcons stadium

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA (CBS46) -

There will be one last chance for prayers for a historic church in Atlanta before it is set to be torn down.

The group "Save Atlanta's Friendship" will hold a vigil Sunday night in front of Friendship Baptist Church.

The church agreed to sell its property last year for $19.5 million to make way for the new Falcons stadium.

Atlanta's oldest black church held its final service in May.

The vigil will run from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. on the Mitchell Street side of the church.

Nearby Mt. Vernon Baptist Church also agreed to sell its property. That church held its last service in March.
