CARTER COUNTY, TN (WJHL) -

Two men in custody for the murder of a Roan Mountain man have confessed to the killing according to investigators.

Carter County Sheriff Chris Mathes held a news conference Sunday afternoon to release details about what led to the murder.

According to Sheriff Mathes, 19-year-old Demetrice Cordell and 18-year-old Anthony Lacey went on a crime spree, conducting numerous thefts throughout Roan Mountain.

Investigators said among the stolen items are a truck and two 4 wheelers.

Mathes said suspect Anthony Lacey knew the victim, 56-year-old Danny Vance and knew that Vance owned several guns and kept cash on him.

Mathes said the suspects lured Vance out of the house and began to beat him.

Upon luring him out of the house we know that Mr. Vance was struck multiple times with a rock primarily and specifically in the back of the head,” said Mathes.

Mathes said a key piece of evidence in this case was victim Danny Vance's pistol.

The pistol was found at the house where Cordell's grandfather lived.

Both men face charges of theft of property over $500, theft of property over $1,000, evading arrest, aggravated robbery, first degree murder and more charges are pending.

Both men are being held on $210,000 bond.
