Woman thanks DeKalb County firefighters for saving her life

Posted: Updated:

It's a very different day for Gladys Moore of DeKalb County. She is able to walk into DeKalb County Fire Station 4 in Ellenwood. That wasn't the case May 1 when Moore's husband brought her here because she was having a heart attack.

"I remember telling him to stop over here instead of trying to get to the hospital because I felt like these paramedics and firemen can drive a little bit faster and running red lights and we couldn't run red lights," said Moore.

Fire Captain Terrell Davis was at the station that day. He remembers working on Moore.

"Once we got you out of the car you went into cardiac arrest and we started doing CPR," Davis said.

Moore was in Cardiac arrest for 45 minutes. Firefighters and paramedics never stopped working on her. She doesn't remember any of that. She only knows she survived, waking up in the ICU three days later.

Sunday afternoon she returned to say thank you to the men and women who saved her life.

"I want to thank these guys for being here. They are wonderful people. Between you all and the Lord, the Lord guided you in saving me. You saved my life," Moore said.

The firefighters were overwhelmed by her appreciation to them.

"It feels great to know 'hey, we did our job,' and this is evidence that someone can actually say there is a thank you involved because a lot of times in this profession it's just looked at as a thankless job because it's what we are suppose to do," Davis said.
