Suspect shot, officer injured in multi-county police chase

Two people were injured in a multi-county police involving three suspects that started in Fulton and ended in Cobb County Monday.

According to officer Kim Jones with Atlanta police, officers responded to the 1200 block of Chattahoochee Avenue NW around 11 a.m. after being told that three suspects were breaking into vehicles.

Jones said that after an officer started a pursuit, the suspects made a hard right on nearby Marietta Boulevard and busted a tire.

The driver, Holsey Hubbard, left the vehicle and ran behind a nearby Family Dollar store, according to police. Hubbard was later caught and arrested.

After Hubbard left the vehicle, police say a passenger in the vehicle, Dandre Barnwell, got into the driver seat and continued north on Marietta Boulevard into Cobb County.

He eventually hit a guard rail, allowing officers to catch up to him, according to police.

While trying to escape, Barnwell made what police described as an "overt" move toward one of the officers, which is when an officer opened fire on him as he fled into nearby woods. Police said he also dropped a semi-automatic gun as he fled.

Cobb County police and tracking dogs eventually caught Barnwell in the woods. He had a gunshot wound to his thigh and was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

A third suspect, Aleonta Wilson, was arrested while trying to escape through the sunroof of the vehicle.

All three suspects were charged with fleeing and attempting to elude officers, theft by taking, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and first-degree criminal damage.

An officer was treated at the scene after being cut on the wrist by broken glass.
