Henrico set to vote Thursday on proposed Wegmans, Cabela's

Posted: Updated:

The Henrico Planning Commission will vote on a proposed development Thursday that could bring a Wegmans grocery store and Cabela's outdoor gear store to Short Pump. Opponents have begun circulating flyers and phone calls, raising concerns about extra traffic.

In April when we reported the plans for two Wegmans stores headed to our area, our Facebook page was flooded with comments from people excited about the news. The plans for new development could be one step closer to reality as the planning commission in Henrico gets set to vote.

The Henrico store is proposed at West Broad Marketplace, about half a mile west of the mall. The store would be an anchor along with the proposed Cabela's.

The Wegmans stores are expected to create 500 to 600 full-time jobs in our area.

With the addition of the Wegmans and Cabela's, there will be room for more stores in the West Broad Marketplace.

Construction is also expected to begin soon on more than 500 residential units in another new development in the area.

If all goes well, construction on the Cabela's would begin next year. There is currently no set date for construction or possible opening date for Wegmans.

The meeting gets underway at 7:00 p.m.
