Douglasville losing officers to MARTA for higher salaries

Posted: Updated:
DOUGLASVILLE, GA (CBS46) -

Officials in Douglasville said they are awaiting an independent study, which will compare their city employee salaries to the salaries of employees who live in cities of similar size.

The city is losing its police officers to MARTA, which offered one former Douglasville police officer $10,000 more annual income.

"You're never going to pay police officers what they're worth, to put their lives on the line. We feel that we're basically competitive," said Bill Osborne, Douglasville city manager.

Some Powder Springs police officers earn as much as $60,000.

Carrollton officials said their police officer positions top out at $43,000, but said they have gone outside of that range to keep officers.
