Science teachers head back to class

ATLANTA (CBS46) -

The Georgia Aquarium is putting on a summer camp for teachers this week. The program is officially known as Creeks to Coast.

This in-the-field classroom is traveling the length of the Chattahoochee River from north Georgia all the way to Apalachicola and the Gulf of Mexico.

Nineteen teachers in all are participating, mainly from Georgia, but some from as far away as Texas. The project is funded by Georgia Power and Georgia Pacific.

The Georgia Aquarium is hoping this outdoors biology project will empower teachers with unique insight into our state's watersheds and environmental issues.

Teachers participating this week say this real world experience will make it easier to teach science to their students, and make the learning process more exciting.
