ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Hundreds gathered at The King Center today to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act.

"Ten of us drove down from New Jersey," said Laquan Fisher, a New Jersey resident.

King's daughter Bernice spoke at the event and said it is the responsibility of every generation to work for freedom.

"There's a cover over it (Civil Rights Movement) right now because they are trying to take away the essence of it. So that means we'll have to struggle and do some fighting like we did back then," said C.T. Vivian, a civil rights activist who worked beside Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
