BRAVES-CUBS

Johnson's HR helps Braves beat Cubs 10-7

CHICAGO (AP) - Chris Johnson had three hits, including his third homer in two days, and the Atlanta Braves beat the Chicago Cubs 10-7 on Sunday.

Johnson hit a long drive to straightaway center field for a three-run shot in Atlanta's four-run third inning against Travis Wood (7-8). Johnson also went deep twice in the Braves' 11-6 victory at Wrigley Field on Saturday.

Atlanta played without struggling second baseman Dan Uggla, who was suspended by the team for the final game before the All-Star break. The Braves announced the punishment on their Twitter feed, with no further explanation.

"I'm not going to say anything other than that it's an internal matter," manager Fredi Gonzalez said before the game.

Arismendy Alcantara and Chris Coghlan each hit a two-run homer for the last-place Cubs, who have lost eight of 10.

BRAVES-UGGLA SUSPENDED

Braves suspend 2B Dan Uggla for 1 game

CHICAGO (AP) - The Atlanta Braves have suspended struggling second baseman Dan Uggla for one game.

The team announced the suspension on its Twitter feed on Sunday morning, with no further explanation. Manager Fredi Gonzalez declined comment before Atlanta's game at the Chicago Cubs, calling it an "internal matter."

Uggla has played sparingly since rookie Tommy La Stella was promoted from Triple-A Gwinnett on May 28. The 34-year-old Uggla is batting .162 with two homers and 10 RBIs in 48 games.

Atlanta also promoted infielder Phil Gosselin from Triple-A Gwinnett. Gosselin hit .345 with five homers and 30 RBIs in 88 games with Gwinnett.

PHELPS COMEBACK

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Michael Phelps was beaten by Yannick Agnel in the 100-meter freestyle at the Bulldog Grand Slam on Sunday.

Agnel, who won two gold medals for France at the 2012 London Olympics and trains with Phelps at the North Baltimore Aquatic Club, won with a time of 49.37 to Phelps' 49.42.

Ryan Lochte won the 200 individual medley in 1:58.65, defeating Chase Kalisz (1:59.38).

In other events, Becca Mann won the women's 800 freestyle, Melanie Margalis took the women's 200 IM, Kylie Stewart the women's 200 backstroke, Michael Klueh the men's 1,500 freestyle and Tyler Clary the men's 200 backstroke.

SKY-DREAM

McCoughtry, Hayes help Dream edge Chicago

ATLANTA (AP) - Angel McCoughtry matched a season high with 33 points, Tiffany Hayes hit the clinching free throws with 29 seconds remaining and the Atlanta Dream beat the Chicago Sky 81-79 in overtime Sunday for their fourth straight victory.

The Dream (15-5) looked sluggish after winning Saturday night at Indiana, shooting a season-low 35 percent from the field and finding it difficult to put away a Chicago team that's lost five straight and 12 of 15.

Allie Quigley finished with a career-high 27 points in a reserve role, and Sylvia Fowles, who missed a layup at the regulation buzzer that would've won the game, had 17 points and 14 rebounds for the Sky (8-13).

Sancho Lyttle scored 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Erika de Souza added eight points and 11 rebounds for Atlanta.

SEC MEDIA DAYS

NCAA, QBs shift among topics at SEC media days

(AP) - There's plenty of issues to discuss in the Southeastern Conference.

The league opens its annual media days on Monday with radical change in the college athletic model appearing imminent and the SEC Network soon to take the airwaves. A fourth day has been added to the event in suburban Birmingham, Alabama, and the SEC has issued about 1,100 media credentials.

Florida State ended the SEC's seven-year run of national titles by beating Auburn in January. Six of the league's teams will have new starting quarterbacks with the exodus of star power at the position including Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel, Alabama's AJ McCarron and Georgia's Aaron Murray.

SEC Commissioner Mike Slive opens SEC media days then Auburn's Gus Malzahn will take the podium.
