LILBURN, GA (CBS46) -

Lilburn and Gwinnett County police were on the scene at Lilburn's City Hall after a suspicious package was found near the building.

The item was spotted near 76 Main St. Tuesday at about 2 p.m.

According to Lilburn police Capt. Thomas Bardugon, a witness say a man park his SUV in front of City Hall, open the trunk, take out a metal package and put it on the sidewalk before driving off.

He is described as a well-dressed dark skinned or heavily tanned white man wearing a red polo style shirt with black pants.

Lilburn police, whose headquarters adjoins City Hall, called the Gwinnett County Police Department's Hazardous Device Unit for assistance.

The roads in the area were shut down while crews worked.

Using a remote control robot, police determined the package was not hazardous and the area re-opened to traffic and pedestrians.
