A woman was injured by gunfire early Monday morning while out walking her dog near a Buckhead hotel, according to police. Her dog was killed by one of the bullets.
The shooting happened when the woman and her boyfriend came back to their room to find two men trying to break into their vehicle. According to Atlanta police investigators, the two men began firing shots when the couple came upon them.
"The female with the dog ran back toward the apartment," said Lt. Rod Woody. "And it looks like the perpetrators chased them back, there were some shots that were fired, the dog was hit and killed on the scene. And the female was hit in the arm."
Caitlinn Ford was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she received treatment for a gun shot to her left arm. Her boyfriend, Aaron Boyd, was uninjured. Police were able to track down one of the shooting suspects, while the other one got away.
