TEMPERANCE, MI (Toledo News Now) -

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office was involved in a standoff with a suspect in Temperance Monday night.

Deputies surrounded a man who they say had a gun in the woods near Stoneybrook Lane.  He was taken into custody around 11:30 p.m.

Officials say they were called to the scene by a mother who said her 24-year-old son had gone into the woods with a handgun. Monroe County Sheriff Sergeant Jeff Pauli says the man fired the gun twice.

Police, sheriff's deputies, and the SWAT team all responded and were able to find the man.

There is still no word on what caused the man to go into the woods with a gun, but officials say he had no hostages and no one was hurt.

A fire chief on the scene said it started as a missing person's case. Police are in contact with the person who was reported missing.

The unnamed man is charged with felonious assault and a felony firearm charge.
