Suspect crashes SUV into public housing, runs away

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

An SUV slams into a public housing building overnight, leaving behind a huge mess.

This all happened in the 1500 block of Harwood Street, near Hillside Court. The good news is nobody was inside the building at the time this happened, but this RRHA building is now condemned as a result of the accident.

This all started when a tow truck was attempting to repossess an SUV around 1:00 a.m. The tow truck driver had it hooked up to the truck. That's when the suspect jumped into the SUV and slammed right into the building, then ran off.

There is significant damage to the building. The building inspector came out overnight and condemned the building. Police are now calling this a hit and run investigation.

The suspect is still on the run. If you have any information, you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
