Police investigate shooting on Scarbrough Trail near Stone Mountain
DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -
Detectives are trying to figure out whether two men, who turned up separately at two DeKalb County hospitals early Monday morning, were wounded in a shootout with each other in a neighborhood cul-de-sac near Stone Mountain.
According to Sgt. Steven Dean of the DeKalb County Police Department, someone called 911 just after midnight to report seeing a man on the side of Covington Highway near the entrance to the Scarbrough Square subdivision. Authorities arrived and discovered that the man, who is approximately 18 to 20 years old, had been shot in the abdomen and in the shoulder.
Police said it appeared someone dumped the man on the side of the road in an attempt to avoid being caught.
Paramedics rushed the man to a nearby hospital. A few minutes later, police got a call from a second hospital that another man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds had been brought there by a friend. That man is approximately 20 to 25 years old, Dean said.
Detective work led police to Scarbrough Trail where they believe one of the injured men lives. On the pavement in the cul-de-sac, officers found several bullet shell casings.
"We're just trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together to try to figure out what happened," said Dean. "Right now, we're interviewing witnesses, canvassing the area and also processing the scene."
Detectives say it's possible that robbery was the motive.
