PREVIOUS STORY:

By Josh Smith KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) -  Police are continuing their investigation into a shooting on the 800 block of Dale Street in Kingsport. It happened around 10:30 p.m. Monday and police are releasing very little information at this time.

"Detectives are currently in the preliminary stages of the investigation," said Tom Patton, Kingsport Police Public Information Officer.

News Channel 11's Lauren Haviland was on the scene by 11 p.m. and described it as several people being in the streets, "One person was rushed away in an ambulance. Many of the people in the street were very emotional."

An hour after the shooting, more a dozen Kingsport Police cruisers were still outside the home on Dale Street.

By 11:30 p.m. a large group of people and multiple police cars gathered outside Holston Valley Medical Center's emergency room, apparently with a connection to the shooting investigation on Dale Street. A spokesperson for the hospital directed our crew to stay back until more information could be released.

"The hospital is taking precautions to make sure everyone in and outside of the hospital are safe," said Jim Wozniak, Wellmont Health System.  "Nothing inside the hospital warranted the extra security."

This is a developing story.  We will continue to update this story online as additional information is released.
