KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) -

Sunday, a tornado swept through the Rock Springs area of Kingsport leaving significant damage. Perhaps, the most extreme damage was found at 1912 Rock Springs Road where a home was almost destroyed.

Witnessing the damage first hand, a nearby neighbor ran to help. As he scanned the scene, he discovered among the scattered debris an air compressor that was stolen from his barn in a burglary the previous day.

Detectives from the Kingsport Police Department responded and found other stolen items including: a welder, a ratchet, an air hose, and a weed trimmer. All of the items were taken during burglaries on two different occasions on July 26th and July 14th. In all, more than $1,000 in reported stolen items were recovered.

Police produced the home's resident, Jerrod L. Christian, as a suspect in those burglaries. Christian was already serving time in the Sullivan County Jail in Blountville, TN on previous charges of disorderly conduct and retaliation. Those charges stemmed from an incident on July 26 where Kingsport police were called to another home on Rock Springs Road.

In that case, Christian’s girlfriend told officers that he took her van without permission. While the officers were taking the report, Christian arrived with the van. According to officers, when they tried to speak with him Christian became "extremely belligerent", "disruptive" and "began to shout and curse at them".

Christian was arrested for disorderly conduct. Police say while en route to Kingsport City Jail, Christian threatened to assault the transporting officer and the officer’s mother, and to sexually assault the officer’s children. Needless to say, those alleged actions resulted in an additional charge of retaliation.

News Channel 11's Kylie McGivern spoke with the stolen property owner, grateful to have his equipment returned.
