A man has been charged with murder and three others have been charged in connection with a shooting that occurred in Brookhaven on Thursday.

Officers found Justin Acevedo, 22, with a gunshot wound to the chest at North Cliff Valley Way and Coosawatee Drive around noon.

He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to authorities.

Brookhaven police charged Juan Carlos Ramirez, 18, of Brookhaven, with murder in Acevedo's death.

Investigators learned Ramirez and Acevedo were involved in a verbal confrontation at Parke Towne North Apartments, where they both live, when the shooting occurred.

Witnesses reported seeing a group of people, including the shooter, running.

Officers quickly located a group of four people that they believed were involved.

Detectives pieced together evidence and witness statements to determine Ramirez was the shooter.

Ramirez was charged with murder, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The other individuals, all of Brookhaven, were also arrested and charged in connection with this investigation.

Ileanna Martinez, 21, was charged with tampering with evidence, false name and date of birth, and possession of marijuana less than 1 oz.  Petra Pineda Cortez, 18, and Francisco Munoz, 22, were charged with disorderly conduct and obstruction of law enforcement.

All four were taken to the DeKalb County Jail.
