Two men have been charged after a 4-year-old boy drowned in a Clayton County swimming pool on Wednesday.
According to a news release from Clayton County police, the department responded to Winding Way Lane in Jonesboro after they were told a boy, now identified as Donovan Daniels, had fallen into a pool.
Police officers immediately entered the pool when they arrived, and after an extensive search, found and removed the child from the water, according to the release.
Although Clayton County EMS attempted to save the child's life, Donovan was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Authorities said Donovan and his family were visiting from out-of-state.
Harold Carter, 59, and Robert Carter, 64, told police they were under the influence of marijuana at the time of the drowning. They have since been charged with misdemeanor possession and distribution of marijuana.
It is unclear if or how they are related to Donovan.
Police continue to investigate regarding other possible charges.
