Police searching for man who tried to kidnap woman at Kingsport school bus stop

KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) -  Kingsport Police are searching for a man who they say tried to kidnap a mother while she waited for he children to get off a school bus.

Around 3:30 pm Thursday, police say the 30-year-old woman was standing by the road in the 400 block of Allen Drive in front of Providence Place Apartments.

"While she was waiting, a passing motorist stopped in the roadway, stepped out of his car, and offered her a ride, which she politely declined," said Tom Patton, Kingsport Police spokesman.    "The motorist asked her a second time more directly, and she declined again. He continued to offer her a ride over and over, becoming increasingly insistent and agitated. He escalated to the point of ordering her into the car. Upon her final refusal he grabbed her arm and attempted to pull her into his car."

Patton said the woman tried to escape, eventually kicking the man and running to her apartment to call police.

The woman suffered only minor injuries including abrasions and redness on her arm.

The man was last seen speeding away on Allen Drive toward Tranbarger Drive.
