COLUMBIA, SC (TheBigSpur.com) - Former South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw didn't play in Cleveland's first preseason game, but he finally got his shot in the fourth quarter on Monday night against Washington.
Shaw led a drive that fizzled out in his first possession but then took the Browns 91 yards for what could have been a game-tying score with no time left on the clock.
Shaw completed a Hail Mary touchdown pass with no time remaining in the game after taking over at his own 9-yard down 24-17. The Browns elected to go for a two-point conversion and the win but Shaw's pass fell incomplete.
Shaw completed 8-of-9 passes for 123 yards and a touchdown during his two drives worth of work. Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel, the two quarterbacks battling for the starting job, were a combined 9-of-24 for 89 yards and one touchdown.
