ATLANTA (CBS46) -

A police officer is being treated for neck pain after a suspected drunken driver rear-ended his patrol car early Tuesday morning.

The officer, who's with the Atlanta Police Department's DUI unit, had just pulled over a different driver when a man driving a red pickup truck veered over, bumped into the back of the patrol car and kept driving. After the jolt, the officer drove after the truck and pulled over its driver.

Paramedics took the officer to Grady Memorial Hospital.

"He's suffering from neck pain at this time," said Capt. Janet Brady, "So we're waiting to see what his injuries may or may not be."

Other officers responded to the scene and performed a field sobriety test on the driver. Afterward, they took the man into custody.
