Family and friends of 13-year-old Nizzear Rodriguez are mourning his death. The boy was found with a gunshot wound to his head at his home in Carrollton late Sunday morning.

Nizzear was found by his uncle who told his sister, Kanisha Osorio, the young man's legs were stiff.

Word of his death spread quickly, as police flooded the neighborhood and cordoned off the home for investigators to search for evidence.

Friends of Nizzear were notified through text messages and social media. Many said they did not believe it at first.

"I couldn't believe it. I thought maybe they were talking about the wrong person because I know that he's not bad or anything," said Atesia Wallace, a friend who lives down the street.

Friends and family describe Nizzear as a bright kid, who was always smiling.

"He was a good child. He never got in trouble - all-A student taking all honor classes. He even knew my college work," said Osorio.

Sunday evening, a vigil was held for the teen. Dozens of people showed up to remember him and to show their support for the family.

Police said they are interviewing witnesses but said they do not have a motive.  Investigators said they have recently served gang-related warrants in the area, but said they have not responded to any calls at the apartment where Nizzear lives.

If you have information which would help investigators solve the case, you are asked to call the Carrollton Police Department at 770-834-4451.
