GOP nominates McSally in CD2

Posted: Updated:
TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Retired Air Force colonel Martha McSally now has the Republican nomination to take on Democratic incumbent Ron Barber, and has 70 days to do it.

She's confident she can better defend Davis Monthan because of her air force experience, her A-10 training, and her history of fighting for female service members.  One of her campaign pillars is fighting government over-reach, which she said that she can do while still defending our military installments and border security.

"We need people in DC who are going to make sure those things that the government should be doing, like protecting Americans, securing the border, taking care of veterans, they do well. And then the things that they really shouldn't be doing, they stopped over reaching, like getting out of the way of small businesses so they can thrive and grow the economy," she said.

While she is now the Republican candidate for CD 2, she said that she is independent-minded, which is a message to voters who worry about party politics locking up Congress again.
