Goats recruited to clear path for Buckhead trail

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA (CBS46) -

One Atlanta community just saw a surge of new residents. Sort of.

Buckhead has become the temporary home to 27 goats. The goats, which were obtained by Get Your Goat Rentals, were "hired" to clear kudzu and other overgrowth from a multi-use trail called PATH400.

The goats are being accompanied by a dog named "Sweat Pea" who will provide security for the goats as they continue their month-long work.

The organization responsible for this initiative, Liveable Buckhead, invites you to join in on the fun. You can support PATH400 by sponsoring a goat.

"Goats are inherently amusing and playful, so we thought this would be a great opportunity to get the community involved with PATH400," said Denise Starling, who is the executive director of Livable Buckhead.

"And the goats are also the most environmentally responsible to clear the land - no exhaust-producing machinery required."

If you would like to sponsor a goat, the cost is $100, which is tax-deductible. The money is used for the PATH400 construction.

In return for your sponsorship, you will get the following:

  • An invitation to meet your goat at an event in September.
  • A thank you letter and photo from your goat.
  • "Goat Gram" updates from Sweat Pea
  • A Liveable Buckhead membership for the rest of 2014
