Restaurant Report Card: Food King 55 'U,' BGR 100 'A'

Posted: Updated:

CBS46 questioned Food King Restaurant in Stone Mountain this week after they were dethroned by the health department for failing a health inspection.

"Is it safe to eat here?" CBS46's Adam Murphy asked an employee.

"Management is not here," an employee said.

Food King Restaurant on Hambrick Road in DeKalb County scored only 55 points and a "U" for unsatisfactory.

An employee handled money, wiped sweat from their face and continued to prep food without washing their hands. Plus, raw chicken was stored above collard greens and roaches were in the kitchen area.

"Sir we need to ask you a couple of questions," Murphy said.

"Management is not here," an employee repeated.

This kitchen employee chose to remain incognito, but he couldn't hide from the fact that they posted the wrong health score, misleading customers.

"Why don't you want to come out and talk about these issues?" Murphy asked.

"Management is not here," an employee said a third time.

Moments later, the chef came out to answer our questions.

"Were those roaches getting into food?" Murphy asked.

"No," Food King Chef George Williams said.

"Where were those roaches?" Murphy asked.

"Just baby ones you see on the floor," Williams said.

Now to some good scores.

In Gwinnett County, Kabob Xpress at 6135 Peachtree Pkwy. in Peachtree Corners picked up 96 points and an "A."

In Fulton County, Baltimore Crab and Seafood at 1075 Fairburn Rd. in Atlanta picked up a 97.

In Cobb County, Cafe at Pharr at 4300 Paces Ferry Rd. received 100 points and an "A."

Our featured restaurant of the week is BGR, The Burger Joint at Atlantic Station in Midtown Atlanta. This unique spot allows you to create your own burger and everything is under $12. Plus, they received a perfect health score.
