Buy baby bye

Walmart is known for their low prices; but you can get a better deal on certain items elsewhere. Now, here are five things you might not want to buy at Walmart, according to Kiplinger.com:

Nuts & seeds: The better deals are at Aldi and Trader Joe's, both of which beat Walmart's prices by about $1.

Gift cards: You can get gift cards for many restaurants and stores at Walmart, but you pay face value. Instead, you should get discounted gift cards at sites such as GiftCardGranny.com. A $50 gift card to Olive Garden on there sells fro $42.48--or 15% off--and shipping is free.

Batteries: You will do better by buying batteries in bulk, at a warehouse club. Duracell AA batteries cost nearly twice as much per battery, at Walmart than at Costco.

Gift bags & wrapping paper: These best place to get these...the dollar store, for just a buck. They can cost four times that at Walmart.

Video games & Blu Ray dvd: This is where Amazon comes into play. Call of Duty Ghosts was $17 cheaper than Walmart, on Amazon. The Playstation 4 system was $50 cheaper on Amazon.

Fly like an eagle

Just to put the holidays into perspective...this past weekend marked 9 weeks until Christmas. So, if your plan is to fly closer to that time, you better book your tickets stat! The lowest fares pop up about 8 weeks before departure, which means the prices are only going to skyrocket from here on out.

The Airlines Reporting Corporation says fares should still be around 19% below the average prices, which sits just under $500.

Out to get ya'

Scammers are going to be in full force this season, which means you need to protect your financial information. The Better Business Bureau recommends...

  • Keeping a record of your account numbers, expiration dates, and the number you need to call to report fraud.
  • Carry your cards separately from your wallet. This means you will have it on you, if someone steals your purse or wallet.
  • Never sign a blank receipt. Always draw a line through any blank spaces above the total.
  • Let your card issuer know of any address changes or travel plans.
  • And call them as soon as you realize your card has been lost or stolen. Once reported, you are no longer responsible for any charges you did not make.

Gassin' up

Now for some good news...which is at the gas pump this morning. Prices continue to fall, dropping $.20 in just two weeks. Analysts say the drop is driven by a decrease in the price of crude oil.

  • Gas prices are down $.31, from this time last year.
  • The average in Georgia is $2.92
  • And metro Atlanta is $2.98, according to GasBuddy.com
