Police called to Douglasville church after pastor is fired

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Douglas County deputies were called to Old Mountain Top Baptist Church after the church's longtime pastor said another preacher was trying to take over his pulpit.

"This is a minority trying to take the voice of the majority," said Pastor Darryl Momon of Old Mountain Top Baptist Church.

The pastor stood outside the church, Sunday, after a deacon issued a restraining order prohibiting Momon from stepping foot onto the church's property.

"And then they brought in a fictitious congregation from the pastor who just preached," said Anne Wilkins, a longtime member of the church.

Momon said a deacon fired him in June because he felt there were divisions among church members.

The pastor was voted back in and was fired again at some point.

When Momon showed up, Sunday, some members of the existing church had hired another pastor, Dr. Curtis Green.  Green brought members of his former church who sat in pews along with members of the Old Mountain Top Baptist Church.

CBS46 News tried to talk to members who came with the new pastor, but they refused to make a comment.

Deputies said they would not interfere with the church's issues, but were only there to maintain peace.
