Family and friends of man killed by DeKalb police demand justice

Posted: Updated:

There was a candle light vigil at the DeKalb County Courthouse Monday in honor of Kevin Davis.

"He was a good guy," said Dalisa Davis, Kevin Davis's sister. "He was my brother, my baby brother."

The 44 year-old was shot and killed by a DeKalb County police officer four days after Christmas.

"It's been over 30 days since he's been gone, but it feels like it just happened yesterday," said Dalisa Davis.

Police say the officer was responding to a stabbing call at the Marquis Forest Apartments. They say when he arrived at the apartment in question, he was forced to shoot a large dog after it lunged at him.

Investigators say Davis was also in the apartment with a gun, and that when he ignored commands to drop it, the officer opened fire.

Davis, however, was not involved in the stabbing.

"He didn't deserve what he got and I miss him everyday," said Dalisa Davis.

DeKalb police are conducting an internal investigation but Davis's family and supporters want more.

"I just want the Georgia Bureau of Investigations to open an investigation into the death of my brother because he didn't deserve it," Dalisa Davis said.

Members of the group #it'sbiggerthanyou promised to camp out at the court house until Tuesday.
