Family confirms criminal investigation in Bobbi Kristina Brown case

Posted: Updated:

A criminal investigation is underway as police try to determine how Bobbi Kristina Brown ended up unresponsive in the bathtub of her home, said her father's attorney.

Brown, 21, was found in her Roswell home on Jan. 31, and passed away on July 26.

Family members blasted published reports that they were planning to take her off life support to coincide with the anniversary of her mother Whitney Houston's death.

The attorney for Bobbi Kristina Brown's father Bobby Brown released a statement that reads in part:

"The false reports that continue to appear in print and on the Internet are egregious, false and will be dealt with at an appropriate time. In particular, the false reporting of TMZ, The National Enquirer, The Atlanta Journal Constitution and the Daily Mail (UK) citing, police sources, family sources and Bobby Brown himself, will receive my attention. The desire to be 'first' has clouded the judgment of many reporters as they forgo accuracy."

Police said Brown was initially given CPR by Nick Gordon, a man originally thought to be her husband, but attorneys for Bobbi Kristina Brown's father, Bobby Brown, later released a statement saying his daughter was never married to Gordon.

Also in the home where she was found was a man named Maxwell Lomas, reportedly a friend.

CNN is reporting that police have questioned Gordon about bruises found on Bobbi Kristina's chest. Gordon said the bruises were from him giving her CPR, a friend of Gordon told CNN.

A prayer vigil was held for Bobbi Kristina Brown in Riverdale that was attended by hundreds of people, including her family and friends.

Bobbi Kristina Brown's mother, the late Whitney Houston, died on Feb. 11, 2012, after she was found unresponsive in a bathtub. Bobbi passed away at a hospice care facility on July 26.
