Georgia lawmakers to decide on expanded beer sales bill

SANDY SPRINGS, GA (CBS46) -

Lawmakers are expected to vote Thursday on Senate Bill 63, which would expand beer sales in Georgia to allow all breweries to sell their product for use outside of their building.

Under current law, breweries that also serve food, like Five Seasons Brewing in Sandy Springs, are not allowed to sell their beer for consumption off property.

"There will be hundreds of jobs, if not thousands at stake," said Five Seasons Brew Master Kevin McNerney. "The opportunity for new breweries to come in will go away [if the law doesn't pass]. They will take their business to other states."

Thursday's vote is just one step in this year's legislative process to transform the bill to a law.

The bill still must pass through the Georgia Senate and gain approval from the Georgia House of Representatives before the end of the session later in March.
