CLAYTON COUNTY, GA (CBS46) - A Clayton County police officer was killed in a wreck on Tara Boulevard Sunday night.

According to Chief Gregory Porter, Officer Darryl Wallace, 26, was responding to a prowler call at about 8:20 p.m. when he tried to avoid hitting another vehicle. Wallace lost control, crashing his patrol car near Poston Road.

All lanes of Tara Boulevard at Old Poston Road were shut down for several hours. The investigation has been turned over to Georgia State Patrol.

Wallace graduated from the Clayton County Police Academy in November of 2014. Porter said Wallace was a "mission-driven" officer.

"Wallace will be remembered for his selfless and dedicated service to the community and fellow officers," said Porter.

Funeral services for Wallace have not been finalized. Porter asked that the community keep Wallace's family in their thoughts and prayers.
