Woman pays $2,650 for furniture, has nothing to show for it

ATLANTA (CBS46) - CBS46 started looking into MBW Furniture in Atlanta when a woman said she paid more than $2,600 for custom made furniture, but has nothing to show for it.

“After I had paid the final payment, I never heard from them again.  I called several times and finally I got someone from the store and they indicated they would check into it which was their normal response,” MBW customer Leslie Hatcher said.

The furniture store advertises their deals online. Hatcher said they agreed to make her a vanity and after they told her it had been shipped, she said they contacted her again for approval and sent photographs of a different piece of furniture that was a dresser, but not what she said she originally ordered.

“They had done something to the drawers which rendered it useless to me and I said, well we've got an issue because I'm running out of time. I need the piece, I like the piece, but can it be fixed and he said he would look into it, and I never heard back from them. I called multiple times,” Hatcher said.

It has now been nine months since Hatcher paid for the vanity and she hasn't received it. So CBS46 went to the business in search of answers. The owner was unavailable, but one of the employees was familiar with the situation.

“Is her furniture here now?” CBS46's Adam Murphy asked.

“I can't speak on behalf of that. What I can speak on is, we are working with her to resolve this,” an MBW Furniture employee said.

“It's a yes or no. Is she going to get her money back or her furniture that she bought for $2,600?” Murphy asked.

“If she calls here, which she has, we can make arrangements for her,” the employee responded.

Hatcher said her calls to the company haven't netted results and she wants other consumers to be aware.

“I think it's probably just a mistake, a misunderstanding, which I would have understood except for the fact that they refused to get back to me and try to make it right. If they had tried to make it right there would be no issue,” Hatcher said.

Hatcher said at one point the owner of the company told her he would refund her money, but that didn't happen. Now the owner told CBS46 via email that he is confident that he did everything possible to please Hatcher and that he built the order according to her exact specifications.

When we asked him how he planned to resolve this issue, he did not respond.
