The family of a woman who was shot and killed by Atlanta police wants answers.

Police say Alexia Christian shot at two of their officers from the back of a patrol car after she was detained for being found in a stolen car on April 30.

The officers jumped out of the patrol car and immediately returned a total of 10 shots at Christian. She was taken to Grady Meorial Hospital where she later died.

Christian's aunt, Shelia Hamilton, wants to know how her niece ended up at the center of the frenzy, and how she ended up getting shot and dying on the back of a stretcher.

"I never would expect that was my niece laying on the ground, being pulled out on the stretcher," Hamilton said. "We're just numb right now. It's overwhelming right now."

Djuanne Threet, another aunt, told us she couldn't believe it when she heard the awful news.

"I was already stunned. I was in shock. Tears were coming to my eyes," Threet said. "It's just really hard because we don't really know what's going on. We're just lost."

Threet says Christian was a happy young woman and mother who loved her sons, ages 2 and 3.

"You couldn't do nothing but smile when you see her. She's going to make you smile at her," Threet said.

But Christian's aunts also say she had what they called a wild side.

"She was a wild child," said Threet. "She walked her own walk."

Her aunts say the picture police are painting of their niece doesn't match the young woman they knew and loved.

"Her plan was not to die. She loved to live," Threet added.

Atlanta police say Christian was previously arrested seven times, and Fulton County police provided mug shots for Christian dating back to 2006. According to jail records, Christian was arrested for a variety of crimes, including theft, marijuana sale, aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and various driving offenses.
