MARTA teams up with Uber

ATLANTA (CBS46) - If it's hard for you to get to Atlanta because MARTA transit doesn't reach your area, there may be a solution to your problem.

MARTA is planning to join forces with Uber in what's being called the Last Mile Campaign.

According to the transportation authority, the details of the deal are still being ironed out. However, CBS46 was told that if a train or bus doesn't reach your final destination, an Uber driver will pick you up and take you where you need to go.

"I think it would be a great idea," said commuter Laura Cummings.

CBS46 tested out the idea, taking an Uber ride outside the perimeter.

Driving from Summer Crossings in Sandy Springs to the North Springs Station took 12 minutes and cost about $9. Using MARTA for that same trip means a 22 minute walk, a nine minute bus ride and paying $2.50 each time you get on.

"That train and bus is too much, especially if it's hot outside," said Cummings, "I'd rather someone come pick me up from my house and take me to the train."
