Troops return to Georgia after tour overseas

DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, GA (CBS46) -

It was an emotional Monday for many Air Force families throughout Georgia as they welcomed their sons, daughters, wives and husbands home.

After four months, the first of three groups returned safely to the Dobbins Air Reserve Base Monday afternoon.

More than 150 airmen were deployed to southwest Asia in January. While abroad, they lent support in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Sandra Barnes is the wife of a flight engineer who just finished his second tour. She said spending time away from him and raising their two kids alone never gets easier.

"...Until you're in those shoes, until your husband's no longer home, until your kids are crying themselves to sleep at night … you can't relate to it," she cried.

Airman Brian Cochran said he felt the same while overseas.

"Nobody can fill that void but your family. There's that void everyday," Cochran said.

All of the airmen will be back home by Tuesday night.
