Auburn's Rocky McCord and Keegan Thompson combined on a seven-hit shutout and a pair of pinch-hitters helped produce the game's only run as the Tigers ousted Mercer 1-0 Saturday in the NCAA regional tournament.
Jordan Ebert singled in a pinch-hit appearance in the sixth inning, stole second base and moved to third on another single and scored on a sacrifice fly by pinch-hitter Blake Logan.
McCord (6-4) went the first 6 2-3 innings before yielding to Thompson, who picked up a save in his first relief appearance of the season. Mercer reliever Morgan Pittman (2-3) took the loss.
It was the third consecutive tournament game decided by one run and the first that didn't go extra innings.
Third-seeded Auburn (36-25) will meet the loser of Saturday night's Florida State-College of Charleston game.
Fourth-seeded Mercer (35-23) got a runner to third base twice and had the bases loaded with two outs in the seventh.
