Alcohol could soon be allowed at Six Flags water park

Posted: Updated:

Six Flag's kiddie water park may reach adulthood sooner than you think, bringing booze into the mix.

The city council's judicial-legislative committee in Marietta approved of a proposal for alcohol to be allowed inside Six Flags White Water, which is about 20 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta.

The first draft would give an outdoor facility on at least 69 acres of land, with at least three swimming pools, water slides, whirlpools and other water activities the ability to have a liquor license.

Marietta city councilman Johnny Walker said he's worried this is one attraction that'll take the thrill right out of the community.

"People sometimes, they overdo it and it slips up on them," said Walker. "I just don't think it's a good mix for Marietta."

April Williams said her main concern is the safety of her kids.

"Your responses are just a little slow when you've been drinking, so I don't think it would be a good idea," said Williams.

Six Flags White Water is sitting front row on this water ride. In a statement the property said in part, "We support the decision to move the application process to the full Marietta council..."

The full city council will vote on the proposal next Wednesday. If this idea is passed, Councilman Walker says you could see people sipping as soon as this summer.
