Delays with AC units continue for seniors at apartment complex

ATLANTA (CBS46) - For the second time, the installation for a new and permanent air conditioning unit at Friendship Tower has been delayed.

GlassRatner, the management company for the senior apartments, said the company transporting the chiller was slowed by the flooding in Texas.

Just like the fans in his Mitchell Avenue apartment, tenant Kaz Pulliam said the management company is blowing hot air.

"If you keep on telling me the same thing and it don't never happen, I'm going to have a tendency not to believe you," said Pulliam.

Seniors said on Friday that a flyer was posted throughout the building advising residents to move their cars out of the parking lot by 7 p.m. Tuesday to make room for the crane. Tenants said they're skeptical because the new AC unit was supposed to arrive last Friday. Then the date was moved to Monday. Now, the management company said the cooling unit should be ready for installation Wednesday morning and should start working Friday.

In the meantime, seniors said they're stuck in their hot homes.

"If it says its 80 degrees out here my thermostat says 90 something...," said Pulliam. He and other tenants said they'll believe it when they feel it.

"How about Saturday you come by and see if its working," said Pulliam.

The attorneys representing five tenants in a lawsuit against the management company and owner said they'll wait until the June 8 deadline has passed before entertaining any legal action. The management company said it hasn't violated any court order because any weather-related delay was unexpected.
