SUGAR HILL, GA (CBS46) -

Gwinnett County Fire spent much of Wednesday morning working to stop a fast moving fire in Sugar Hill.

Firefighters said the inferno started in the garage of a home on Grand Loop Road and quickly spread to the second floor, destroying the home.

Around 3:15 a.m. a family of five, said they were awakened by smoke detectors and ran from their burning house onto the street.

While the homeowner, his wife, their two sons and their daughter made it out alive with no injuries, they said they lost everything in the flames.

The homeowner told CBS46 that he's lived in the house for 12 years and built it from the bottom up.

He watched as firefighters worked for three hours to put out all of the hot spots.

No other homes were impacted and firefighters are still investigating what started the fire.
