Woman sues care center after losing legs, right arm to flesh-eating bacteria

A Gwinnett County mother of two is suing a care center for alleged malpractice after contracting a flesh-eating bacteria that caused her to have several amputations.

Cindy Martinez, a former U.S. Marine, has filed suit against Northeast Georgia Physicians Group, saying the doctor missed signs of infection. Martinez eventually had to have both legs and her right arm amputated.

“She rarely gets a headache, so I knew something was wrong,” her husband David Martinez, a Gwinnett County police officer, told CNN back in 2015.

Doctors quickly discovered the bacteria and realized that Cindy's body was shutting down. She had several surgeries to save her life.

Doctors are still stumped as to what caused the bacteria to enter Cindy's body. She hadn't been anywhere or done anything out of the ordinary, her husband said.

Martinez returned to her home in Dacula in September of 2015 after spending several months in the hospital.
