Adopt a Golden Atlanta brings home more dogs

Posted: Updated:

Adopt a Golden Atlanta has brought back 15 more golden retrievers from Turkey after bringing 36 back in early May.

The dogs arrived by plane on Saturday night.

The group initially rescued 36 dogs because they were deemed high priority after living in shelters or on the streets in the country for a number of years.

The first group of dogs were housed at the Pet Lodge in Alpharetta. Representatives with Adopt a Golden Atlanta say it was the largest ever rescue of golden retrievers internationally.

The most recent rescue has pups ranging in age from 6 months to 3 years.

Golden retrievers were once a status symbol in Turkey but have fallen out of favor in recent years. The group says many people who owned the dogs abandoned them on the streets or took them to shelters.

The group received a tip from someone staying in Turkey and that is what prompted the rescue efforts.

Interestingly enough, the first group of dogs arrived in time for Mother's Day. The second group arrived just in time for Father's Day!
