DeKalb chief fires back after investigators calls county 'rotten'

DECATUR, GA (CBS46) -

County Chief Lee May spoke out in public for the first time after a special investigator called the DeKalb County government “rotten to the core.”

Former State Attorney General Mike Bowers found widespread corruption throughout the county.

May disagrees, saying the report paints innocent county workers with a broad brush.

When asked if corruption is widespread in DeKalb County, May responded, “I don’t believe so.”

When asked what he would do to curb corruption, May answered, “We have to see [what] the details say in the final report. We’re going to [be] vigilant, we’re going to be very aggressive with dealing with [it] as they come to us, and moving forward to root out waste fraud and abuse.”

May said he would get rid of anyone who is caught breaking the rules.
