Parking limited for UGA-Bama game

Posted: Updated:

Ahead of Saturday’s big game against the University of Alabama, Georgia students were notified that parking plans have changed.

According to an email sent from the University of Georgia parking services, the overflow parking lots will be closed on game day. The notice said recent weather has led to soggy ground conditions, so the lots will be shut down in order to prevent further damage. As a result, officials have closed the intramural field, which means 2,000 less parking spots than usual.

“Because of all of the inclement weather and all that…if the field is wrecked probably ruining it for future games, might not be good,” said student Rebecca Page.

At the end of the email, school services asked that visitors without tickets avoid the campus. If you're looking for last-minute tickets, forget about finding a good deal. CBS46 did find tickets on StubHub starting at $235.

Downtown Parking Authority officials expect over 110,000 people to be on campus for the big game. 90,000 are expected to attend and about 25,000 around campus.

“I do think that may be a problem. If there’s way less parking this game, especially for such a large game with some many people coming,” said Page.

University officials say fans with tickets can ride the Athens Transit System buses to the game for free.

Kickoff is Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on CBS46.
