Baby left alone, rescued from SUV with mom in beauty supply store

Posted: Updated:

A mother is facing charges after leaving her baby in an SUV while she was at a beauty supply store.

The incident occurred on Highway 5 in Douglasville, which is about 22 miles west of Atlanta.

You could hear the child screaming right as police arrived at the strip mall. Investigators think the child was left inside the SUV for at least 30 minutes with the windows up.

CBS46 spoke exclusively with the good Samaritan, Christie Ingram, who found the baby girl and called 911 after seeing the child crying and kicking.

"She had no remorse. She was, I think, more shocked that the cops and ambulance was there and she came out and says, 'Oh my gosh, oh my gosh,'" said Ingram. "At that point, my sister was still holding the baby...she didn't even grab her baby until five minutes afterwards."

The baby's mother, 34-year-old Tiesha Parsons, is facing a reckless conduct charge as a result of the incident. Police said Parsons' excuse was that she thought the child was asleep and that her teenager, who happened to be with her, had taken the baby out of the car instead.

Police are not sure of the temperature inside the SUV, but said the baby was found covered in sweat.

Parsons had two other children with her and apparently wasn't aware her baby wasn't with her at the time. Four additional kids were at home during the incident, all of which are now with a family member.

The Division of Family and Children Services has been notified.
