Union wants to meet with MARTA after vote to privatize

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA (CBS46) -

The decision to privatize Marta Mobility has the union that represents drivers on edge.

“How is this going to affect our community?” said Ashley Cole with the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 732. “That’s a huge concern," she said.

The contract is with MV Transportation and would go into effect in March. Cole said the group would take over the responsibilities of the drivers and the maintenance of the fleet.

According to ATU Local 732, the transit agency board’s decision to outsource will do more harm than help. Instead, the union wants the chance to keep things in house.

“We want to sit down at the table and consider everything before we hand over our jobs,” said Cole.

CBS46 reached out to MARTA, asking why this decision was made. We’ll let you know when we hear back.
