ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Ben Carson got the loudest applause when he talked gun rights Tuesday night at the Cobb Energy Center just north of Atlanta.

“The concept of gun free zones is stupid,” Carson said.

“If for instance, there was some type of a takeover, we need to be able to defend ourselves,” said Atlanta resident Debra Shegog.

The medical doctor turned Republican candidate also pointed to the San Bernardino shooting, calling it proof the country’s process of vetting refugees needs a change.

“The vetting process didn’t work,” said Carson, who didn’t address or even utter the name of his top rival, Donald Trump during Tuesday’s speech.

Carly Fiorina

Carly Fiorina, who’s poll numbers are in the single digits, went after him.

“Donald Trump is no better than a politician, he’s an entertainer,” said Fiorina.

“I’ll tell you why I think he said some outrageous things last night. Because Ted Cruz had a good week and Donald Trump needed the spot light back,” she said, responding to Trump’s call to ban Muslims from entering the United States.

Speaking to a smaller room of students and Georgia Republican Leaders at Georgia Tech, Fiorina also talked about breaking down the nation’s tax code.

“Complexity favors the big the powerful the wealthy, the well connected,” said the former Hewlet-Packard C.E.O.
