Principal removed from post after alleged racist comments

DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

A high school principal has been removed from his position after allegedly making racially-charged comments to staff members.

On Wednesday, DeKalb County School Superintendent Dr. Stephen Green sent a letter to parents, students and staff members notifying them that the district had removed the principal and was investigating.

Jason Clyne had been Lakeside's principal since 2013. Lakeside High School is located on Briarcliff Road in DeKalb County.

According to the letter, "the DeKalb County School District was made aware of flyers posted at Lakeside High School and on social media which included allegations made against the principal. The flyers have been seen by students, staff, and other members of the Lakeside High School Community."

The school is conducting an internal investigation into the incident.

CBS46 tried to speak to Mr. Clyne Wednesday, but he declined to comment.

However, DeKalb County Superintendent Stephen Green issued this statement regarding the incident.

"The District is investigating allegations regarding the principal at Lakeside HS. The principal has already been removed from the school.  Any violations of District policy or law will be prosecuted to the fullest extent."

Some students said Lakeside High School blurs the lines of color.

"I feel like we’re really a diverse school," said a Lakeside freshman.

However, others said white and minority students couldn't be farther apart.

"There's so much hate, it's just a bad learning environment. I don’t even feel safe learning in that environment myself," said one student.

Many people are also talking about the incident on social media.
