Two Atlanta police officers are recovering after being struck by a police cruiser while investigating a fatal double shooting in northwest Atlanta late Sunday night.

Officers were called to the 3100 block of Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway just before midnight and discovered two victims shot inside a vehicle in the parking lot of a Burger King restaurant.

One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim was taken to Grady Hospital where he died a short time later.

Police tell CBS46 News that officers were alerted to an armed man running along the northbound lanes of I-285 near Bolton Road who might have been involved in the shooting. Two officers caught up with the man, left their patrol vehicle and began chasing the man on foot.

Another officer arrived on scene and struck the two officers with his police cruiser after he failed to put the vehicle into park. The officers were both taken to Grady Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Police eventually caught up with the man and it was determined that he was riding in the victim's vehicle when the shooting took place. He was arrested and taken into custody. It is unclear what charges he is facing.

Police do not have any suspects in custody in the fatal shooting of the two men inside the vehicle. They also say they found drugs inside that vehicle.

If you have any information regarding the incident, you're urged to contact Atlanta Police.
