A group of parents in Fannin County is threatening to pull their children from school over concerns about policies regarding the bathrooms.

Parent Angel Chancey said the group is opposed to the Fannin County School System's policy of allowing transgender students to choose restrooms according to the gender they identify with.

In statement released by the Fannin County School System Tuesday, officials stated:

There have been no board meetings regarding the transgender issue. There have not been and are not any agenda items related to this on any board meeting agenda. There have not been and will never be any "secret" board meetings to approve or disapprove anything related to this issue.

Chancey said she and other residents plan to speak out about their concerns at a school board meeting set for Thursday in Blue Ridge, about 90 miles north of Atlanta.

Nationwide, the issue has fueled fierce debate in recent months.
